Schumann – “Chopin” from Carnaval, Op. 9 No. 12

I was very fortunate this year to hear Daniil Trifonov perform Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, in Wellington, New Zealand. After the thrilling performance, Trifonov treated us to two gorgeous encores, neither of which were familiar to me.

Later that night, in my quest to discover what the two encores were, I stumbled on an entirely unrelated gem composed by Schumann, “Chopin” from Carnaval, Op. 9.

I fell in love with it straight away and decided to learn it. And make a living room recording! I hope you enjoy 😀

Oh and the two encore pieces? Scriabin Prelude for the Left Hand (Op. 9 No. 1) and Tchaikovsky/Pletnev Adagio from “The Sleeping Beauty”. Credit to Redditor CordwainerBird_1961.
